Relevant Work Experience
• Reporter/Photographer – Iraq and Afghanistan (June 2007 – January 2008)
Stars and Stripes newspaper
- Embedded with U.S. troops to cover both combat operations and development/reconstruction efforts in both theaters of war throughout Iraq and Afghanistan
- Wrote more than 55 stories over a total of five months while on assignment in both countries
- Filed dozens of pictures for the newspaper, with most being published
• Researcher/Writer/Photographer – Chad (March – April 2007)
Small Arms Survey
- Carried out field research on a one-month consultancy for Small Arms Survey, one of the world's principle authoities on arms productions, sales, and illicit trafficking and monitoring organizations in the world
- Duties included travel to capital of Chad, N'Djamena, and throughout the east along the border with Sudan/Darfur during heightened tensions between the governments of Chad and Sudan, and developing sources within the Western and African diplomatic and military communities in order to gain information necessary for Small Arms Survey report
- Responsible for writing an 8,000-word report of arms movements, vectors, and suppliers inside and outside of Chad, and as relates to the government, rebel groups and Janjaweed militias

- Additional countries covered on ground in 2006/07 for The AP: Chad, Sudan, Kenya, Djibouti, Eritrea and Somalia
- Duties encompassed on-assignment reporting, writing and shooting pictures for major international news stories, to include: attempted overthrow of Chadian government, refugees and IDPs in Eastern Chad/Darfur, war in Darfur/Sudan, war in Somalia, diplomatic coverage of the African Union in Addis Ababa, U.S. anti-terror base in Djibouti, U.N. peacekeeping mission on Ethiopian-Eritrean border, disease, drought/famine and flooding in the Horn of Africa, etc.
